Without a shadow of a doubt my best memory was a flypast I arranged. I was asked how did I manage it. Its not what you know but who you know with a bit of luck.

I stood beside Paul Day ( AKA Major ) CO of the BBMF in the gents at RAF Conningsby on members day. I took advantage of the situation knowing I had about 1 minute.

" Im from Martlesham Heath and is it possible to have a Lancaster Flypast at our next open day PLEASE ?" He answered "yes come down to my office"  The rest is obvious.

You can hear Gordon Kinsey commentate and believe you me it was low. In fact so low that some of the older vets on the balcony of the CT fell to the ground.
The pilot Dave Thomas ( last display pilot of the Vulcan that day at Biggin Hill was now having his last day on the Lancaster and we were the last port of call before Conningsby. The Americans have an expression  AWESOME and that is what ii was

I'm unsure as to when I took this photo but it was on the presentation of the Air Gunners Association flag to MHAS for safe keeping

It was an emotionally charged occasion .............
