LT Thomas (TA) Cook, Fighter Pilot USAAF

I'm sure everyone who reads this forum must feel privileged to have the treat of seeing some fantastic photos and stories of Lt. Thomas (TA) Cook, Fighter Pilot of the 356th Fighter Group,  Fighter Squadron 360 when Thomas Cook was based at RAF Martlesham Heath, Suffolk, England

Thomas Cook's son Tom from Newark, Ohio, USA has kindly given permission for Tarkey Barker to upload the pictures of his fathers service whilst stationed in England

There can't be many better stories and pictures that will be uploaded to this thread, Martlesham has a unique place in Aviation History and I would like to thank Tom again for sharing his piece of history with our piece of history in Suffolksmile

I have taken the liberty of copying over 2 of the pictures posted on the welcome thread see below

It is the painting of your Dad's P51 Mustang and it goes by the name of Akron Angel. This was I believe named after your mother.

the picture below is of your Father with his Akron Angel

Thr following has been added by Tom Cook

1) In the background of the painting is Lt John (Jack) Pidwell in "Mary Jane" flying wing, pair formation. Jack was also from the Akron area and my father spoke of him often.

2) The photo of my father and mother was taken for an Akron area newspaper, engagement annoncement. My mother's maiden name was Marie Young. AKA "Akron Angel"

Thanks to Tom for allowing these photos to be posted and to Tarkey for putting them up, considering these photos were taken nearly 70 years ago they show the right tone for the period smile.gif
