As most of you know the Queen has an 'Official Birthday' where the Armed Forces of the UK put on a Trooping the Ceremony Colour and other pageantry including a flypast over Buckingham Palace when most of the Royal Family gather to take the 'salute'
This always occurs at 1300hrs on the second Saturday in June, if the timing is wrong its your watches and clocks that are out of time, as the RAF and Her Majesty are never late!!
Over the years the RAF assemble over the coast of Suffolk just off Southwold and NOTAM's [Notice to Airmen are put in place] so that there is no intrusion into that airspace at that time, the route followed is more or less in line with the A12 Trunk Road
The flight line does seem to vary each year, an nth of a degree left or right of centre, normally I can get quite close to the action but yesterday I was the wrong side of Ipswich and so made my way at 1248hrs to a high spot on Landseer Park, some two miles from the allotted route, I didn't miss much this year as there were only:
2 X Typhoons flanked by 2 GR4 Tornado aircraft
2 x HS125 aircraft
9 x Hawk jets of The Red Arrows [ a 5 ship and 4 ship formation that by the time it arrived over Chantry Ipswich had formed into the usually 'V' formation
