In the late 1970s a new type of aircraft defensive measures were in place alongside Bawdsey these were the white versions of The Bloodhound MKII Ground to Air Missiles, these were used at strategic sites across the UK to deter incoming potential enemy missiles and aircraft. Wattisham who was linked to Bawdsey for QRAs on Lightnings and later Phantoms were also equipped with BH's

Always visible from the Bawdsey Quay to Bawdsey village road, this is a similar missile with camouflage now seen on display at The Imperial War Museum Duxford

I had this in from Tarkey Barkey, anyone stationed at RAF Bawdsey would recall The Brinkley Family: [Am also posting this on the Bawdsey Thread], so does anyone recall this device

The Brinkley Stick was used to discharge an electical charge from an item ( not sure what ). Charlie Brinkley lived in a cottage on Orford Island when the RADAR guys were there and had an accident with a shotgun and lost one arm.

I also got this from a friend

Bizarre aircraft connection. 
The two boats in the first pic with "F" on their sails are Fireflys, built by Fairey and named after the aircraft also built by said Fairey.
From the sail numbers and the National Firefly Register, the photo must be post 1950.

The plane is supposed to have belonged to Winston Churchill.  What is it?

I came across this photograph on the fish hut at FXT Ferry on Wednesday, I had not seen this here before so I guess someone has recently placed same, I acknowledge copyright to The Ipswich Evening Star, anyone recognise themselves with the legendary Charlie Brinkley?

John, the photo above brings back memories.  Trying to think just how many time I was 'chauffeured' to and from Bawdsey by Charlie.  Some faces seem familiar although I cannot put names to them.

Trying to think when Charlie was awarded his BEM for services rendered.  Think it was about that time.  As for airmen wearing sunglasses in uniform; well, you and I wouldn't have done that, would we?awwaww

Have not been on this forum for some time and have now been looking through this thread.  The aircraft in the B&W photo looks very much like a short-nosed Blenheim 1.  Somewhat the worse for wear!  Was that photo taken in the grounds of Bawdsey do you know?
