RAF Ellough/Beccles & Heliport

This was built for the USAAF operations in 1943 but RAF Coastal Command used the airfield extensively later in WWII, flying Warwick aircraft equipped with Airborne liferafts for use of ditched pilots in the North Sea. Gorleston and Felixstowe ASR were used in coordinated searches with the Warwicks.

I know virtually nothing about the airfield apart from taking a brief excursion here in September 2009, so any memories or photos would be most welcome

Box Kites and Gibson Girls would have been found in Dinghies and Airborne Lifeboats in case of ditchings
