RAF Honington

Still an active service station and probably the only one that is in full time use in Suffolk exclusively to the RAF, today the incumbents are the RAF Regiment, but it hasn't always been thus.

I only ever landed there once in 'cadging' a lift in a MR3 Shackleton from St Mawgan, the place was operating V-Bombers then

Thursday I called in at RAF Honington, I knew they had a Gate Guard in the form of a Blackburn Buccaneer so I went to the guardroom to have a look and ask if I could take some photos. The Army guy on the gate, fully armed, had to check with the RAF Police, that side of things was OK, I asked if this Bucc was originally one of 12 Squadrons, no idea came the reply, well I'm not surprised........
