Famous Signatures

Today I popped along to the Martlesham Heath Aviation Control Tower Museum, here there is a wealth of information and history regarding aviation from 1917-1963. From the days of The Royal Flying Corps until its closure just about every land aircraft that could fly and was to enter RAF/RN service and some civilian aircraft was evaluated here.

This therefore meant that a lot of the top pilots [including test pilots] flew their machines from MH, some unfortunately met an untimely end but during those dark days of the second world war pilots and aircrew that became famous served some of their time here before they became famous

Without exception all these guys visited The Black Tiles and signed the 'guest book' the rest is history, today I photographed some of these pages, the original book is now in The RAF Museum at Hendon and is supposed to be the most complete set of signatures and cartoons to be found with RAF & Commonwealth Air Forces

There are only a few pages that I saw on show, there well be others

My special thanks to The Martlesham Heath Aviation Society

The aircraft in use by Number 122 [Bombay] Squadron was believed to have been Spitfires VB at this time
