The RAF in Suffolk

Colonel Mark Ciero also known as 'ZERO ONE' in USAF parlance, Mark is the Vice Commander of the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath and on a recent previous posting he was Deputy Command Inspector General, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and has seen active service in Iraq & Afghanistan, on what he has described as a 'back seat driver' as a Weapons Officer/Navigator on one of our tours to Lakenheath in the past few years

I have met Mark on several occasions now, he holds no airs and graces to anyone, he is simply Mark, I have seen him handling missiles with his men at LH, I'm sure he regards himself as one of the team just doing his job, he is held in the highest regard with all his friends at Martlesham Heath, he is simply an all round good egg

I watched Mark doing the rounds on Sunday on Barrack Square, he appeared to want to say hello and shake everyones hand he met, I can never recall an RAF Group Captain of equivalent rank do that in 13 years of RAF service, maybe times have changed but I doubt it that much. One thing that behind every successful man there is a successful woman, Elaine his wife is exactly the same as Mark in her outgoing attitude to people, as too are their children
