A great friend of Martlesham Heath Aviation Society is Colonel Mark Ciero [callsign ZERO in USAF parlance] by the USAAF memorial at Barrack Square Martlesham, this memorial was the first to be erected within Europe after hostilities ceased after WWII

Mark was the Deputy Commander of the RAF base at Lakenheath until 2014 and was then promoted to full Colonel with a role in NATO at Ramstein AFB in Germany
