I'm not sure I agree with the signage on this post which is fairly recent and for which I took a photo of today, the area has been cleared around the four AVGAS tanks and a good job has been made in doing so with the volunteers. My days in the RAF 1956-69 I always knew AVGAS as being called AVGAS 100/130 Octane, this was written out on the filler caps and fuel bowsers alike, I seem to recall photos I have seen in WWII as being 100/130 Octane but never 100 Octane, perhaps this was an American usage
The hangars behind the Chipmunk of The University of Birmingham Air Squadron [1960] is believed to be the two old hangars of XV Squadron with line huts close by, the road [Portal Avenue] used to run from the old A12 [now A1214] to these hangars this is the approximate site of the Tesco's Extra Superstore, does anyone know what the chimney was used for?
Nice little Scout Group. They always attend the Remembrance Service at MH and take an active part. They bring their Standard and line up with the others lowering it at the correct point and they bring a wreath which last year had a poppy for each of the names on the Memorial
Its moving to see youngsters taking part in this service
