I used to babysit for S/Ldr Law and F/Lts Slater and Rowlands in these houses.   Five bob was the going rate.

Was AVGAS RAF or USAAF?   There was also AVTUR and I can't remember which was which.   Sometime in 1953 two F86s flew downwind and landed on 30.  They were out of fuel.   The camp was on colour-hoisting parade and the gates across the runway were open.   A woman pushing a pram had only just cleared the danger zone; I bet she needed clean underwear.   Anyway, the Sabres had to wait for a bowser to come with their own fuel as ours wasn't the right stuff.   I can't remember where the Americans came from; perhaps Lakenheath, where there were also Thunderjets.
