MAEE & RAF Felixstowe

I had this message on my RAF Forum a few weeks ago from Adrian Tickner, today I received a disc of some wonderful photos, they are not of Martlesham or of M&AEE Felixstowe but they are of the type of aircraft that were based at Martlesham and FXT

Adrian wrote thus:

I am trying to trace R.A.F. airfields used in the 1930's in the Middle East/Sudan area
My father was an Air Gunner/Photographer, later Photographer.
I have a large collection of his photographs of aircraft.
The earliest of him, 'swanning round' in the 'back seat' of a Fairy Gordon of 47 Squadron, over Sudan in the 1930's

Adrian Tickner has kindly given me permission to show some photos that his father took from the late 1920/30's more than likely from the open back seat of an adjacent aircraft.

I think these photos are wonderful and although these particular ones are not taken at Felixstowe [FXT] these aircraft types would most certainly have been evaluated here, there are some very rare snaps of the Schneider Trophy team to come in the next few weeks

Pictures to follow...........

I have no evidence to show that a Blackburn Iris III was ever based at FXT but I should imagine that one appeared here at some time for either evaluation or visiting. This is S1263 serial and The Blackburn Iris was the first seaplane developed and built by the Yorkshire based Company

[photo kindly supplied by Adrian Tickner]

Saro A7 Severn N240. Possibly on the Gareloch, Faslane. This, the prototype, probably was the only one of its type to be built again many thanks to Adrian for the use of the picture, can anyone tell me if this ever appeared at FXT?
