RAF Bawdsey

No doubt there was a connection with RAF Bawdsey, RADAR and Martlesham Heath, anyone with any memories?

Keith Wood who passed away only last year and in his 90s and a regular member of MHAS was one of Watson-Watt's original team ( of 5 I think )even in the early days at Orfordness, and later at Bawdsey where he was a major contributor to the invention and development of Radar.

he was a wonderful chap and at the last talk I attended, when given a microphone to use said "When I need one of these I will give up" That night a BT person from Adastral Park tried to make him look stupid with modern jargon and names. He was the one looking silly in the end. Keith tied him up in knots. Even at that age he knew about modern stuff.

THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THAT ANY MORE.

He did indeed sound like a remarkable man.

Regarding Bawdsey when I was stationed on 29 [F] Squadron Lightnings at Wattisham we had very close ties with RAF Bawdsey when on QRA or during TACEVAL exercises, I guess there was something similar with those pioneers of RADAR in the early 1940s between Bawdsey and MH.

For those who recall the Guardroom at Bawdsey, it hasn't changed very much........
