Ipswich Airport/RAF Ipswich

Roy Sucklings Dornier Do 28 G-BMMR wanted to use Ipswich as a base but our Council maintained that it cut up the grass landing strip. Strange for a plane that was designed to use grass. it went to RAF Wattisham for a while and then to Marshalls at Cambridge.
Norwich have got a big International Airport and what have we got, NOTHING.

Mr Cann had a lot to answer for.

this might be of interest

I'll post a few pics of Ipswich Airport that I took on Tuesday, it is a pity that I hadn't taken the photos when I lived next to the Airport, I feel that Ipswich and Suffolk lost a Golden Opportunity in closing Ipswich Airport and refused to take up the option in the 1960's of expanding Martlesham Heath as an Airport for the region.

Especially with major players like BT Research and the Port of Felixstowe expanding its businesses.............
